I've decided to Link-up with Steph over at Stay Tuned! for her 2/4 Tuesday Linky Party. Click on the link to go link-up yourself or read some of her fun ideas about Choir Repertoire!
Today I'm sharing some ideas I have had about performances and highlighting my AH-MAY-ZING new Faculty Choir!
1) CREATE YOUR OWN FACULTY CHOIR (no but seriously, do it!)
When I was in my very first semester of practicum, I got to work with an incredibly talented cooperating teacher in East Brunswick, NJ- Michele Moore. While we were working with her, we got to experience her Faculty Choir rehearsals once a week. Now that I am pretty established in my second year of my job at my own school, I decided to form one for myself! Best. Idea. Ever. It is the one day a week that we don't go directly to our rooms and start thinking about our day- this way we can ease ourselves in! Case in point: it is disgusting and rainy down here in VA this morning, and I had teachers in my room at 8 AM making music and having fun!
We started rehearsing last October, and the choir debuted at our Winter Concert in January- I may add that both my Principal and Vice Principal are a part of this group. They sang one song with the 5th grade chorus and two of their own- including a choral arrangement of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful." They did such a great job and it showed what amazing support I have for my music program at my school that all of these teachers- I think 14 in all!- showed up for a night time concert and did a phenomenal job!
2) Once you have your Faculty Choir- take risks!!
So now that they have made their debut, I have decided to challenge my colleagues a little and work on Disney's "It's A Small World," but add some different languages! We are going to perform it at our annual Multicultural Night, which will be at the end of the month. So far, we have learned Spanish and German, and now I'm looking into adding some students into the mix to sing the lyrics in their own languages! I'm so excited to see how this turns out, and even if it ends up only being my Faculty Choir, it's still going to be pretty awesome, because, if I haven't said it enough already, they are AWESOME!
I hope everyone who has a Snow Day today is enjoying their time off. Happy Hump Day!
~Molly
